Professional Development

Reflecting on my essay, I now understand even more how important professional development is for teachers and how it has helped me grow during my teaching practical at ETI JSS Tarawaieta and BTC JSS. The three indicators I discussed—participating in training, sharing ideas with others, and updating my personal development plan—were not just ideas in theory. I actually experienced them in real situations, and they helped me become a better teacher. The first indicator, joining professional development and applying it in the classroom, strongly connects to my experience at ETI JSS Tarawaieta. I joined a workshop run by the Exam Unit staff about using group activities in English lessons. After that training, I used small group discussions with my students. This experience showed me how professional development can make a real change in teaching. Students became more active, talked with their classmates, and learned from each other. Seeing them enjoy the activity made me realize that...

Reporting

During my practicum at BTC JSS, I learned how to use the three important reporting indicators, and they helped me understand more about student learning and communication with parents. The first indicator is reporting valid information about students’ progress to students, parents, and other teachers. I had the chance to meet parents during the PTA and share each student’s learning performance and classroom behavior. At first, I felt nervous, but I saw that some parents cared more about academic results while others wanted to know about their child’s behavior and personality. This showed me that reporting helps students understand their strengths and weaknesses, helps parents know how to support their child, and helps teachers plan ways to improve learning. The second indicator is preparing accurate progress records and keeping a student database. I recorded my students’ assessment scores, attendance, and classroom behavior in both paper folders and a digital database. This helpe...

Ethical Behavior and Personal Values

During my practicum at BTC JSS, I learned the importance of ethical behavior and personal values in teaching. I realized that being honest, fair, and respectful in all interactions with students, colleagues, and the school community is essential for creating a positive learning environment. One important indicator I practiced was diligence, which included completing attendance registers, roster duties, and reports accurately and on time. I made sure my classroom resources were well-organized and safe, which helped me deliver lessons smoothly and allowed students to engage fully in the learning activities. Being diligent also meant taking responsibility for my own teaching and preparing lessons carefully so that every student had the opportunity to succeed. Another key indicator I focused on was willingness to work out-of-school hours to enhance learning. I stayed after school to help students who needed extra support in understanding English grammar and vocabulary. I also prepared add...

Lesson planning

During my practicum at BTC JSS, I learned the importance of preparing detailed lesson plans to guide my teaching and help students achieve the learning objectives. I understood that a lesson plan is like a teacher’s manual, showing what students should learn, how I will teach it, and how their learning will be assessed. By linking my lesson plans to the curriculum standards and weekly planner, I was able to ensure that my lessons were organized, aligned with school requirements, and covered the topics in a logical sequence. For example, during weeks 9 and 10, I taught an English topic on “Drama” and linked it to my weekly planner. On the first day, students learned the definition and features of drama, while on the next day, they read a drama and identified the main and minor characters. This helped students understand the lesson objectives and achieve the expected learning outcomes. I also focused on including all essential components in my lesson plans, such as objectives, introduct...

Effective teaching

Reflection on My Teaching Practicum During my teaching practicum at BTC JSS, I learned many important lessons about what it means to be an effective teacher. My experience helped me understand that teaching is not only about delivering lessons but also about finding ways to help students enjoy learning and take part in the lesson actively. I realized that effective teaching requires good planning, creativity, and strong classroom management skills. One of the most valuable things I learned was the importance of using different interactive resources and activities in my lessons. I used games, songs, group discussions, and problem-solving activities to help students understand the topic better. These activities made my classes more enjoyable and allowed students to express their ideas freely. I noticed that when students are involved in fun and interactive tasks, they become more confident and motivated to learn. It also helped me see that every student learns differently, and us...

Literacy and Numeracy Focus Reflection

Literacy and numeracy are essential skills that form the foundation of a child's education. They not only help students understand and interact with the world but also prepare them for future success. Within literacy and numeracy, three important indicators stand out: taking responsibility every day for the teaching of numeracy, teaching targeted vocabulary lessons, and taking responsibility every day for the teaching of literacy. First, taking responsibility every day for the teaching of numeracy means that teachers should actively engage in teaching mathematical concepts in a way that is meaningful to students. This involves not just presenting numbers and equations but also helping students see how math applies to real-life situations. For example, using examples from cooking or shopping can make numeracy more relatable. When teachers take this responsibility, they help students build confidence and skills in math, which are crucial for their academic journeys and everyday liv...

Inclusive education

During my practicum at BTC JSS, I had the opportunity to implement inclusive education in my classroom, which helped me understand the importance of fairness, respect, and support for every learner. Inclusive education means that all students, regardless of their differences, have equal access to learning and feel welcomed and valued in the classroom. I focused on creating a positive classroom environment where mutual respect and acceptance were evident. I encouraged students to listen carefully to each other, use kind words, and participate fully in lessons. By setting classroom expectations and praising students when they followed them, I promoted a culture of respect and cooperation. This approach helped students feel safe, confident, and motivated to join activities and share their ideas. Another important aspect I practiced was addressing variations in students’ learning needs. I organized students into small groups where they could collaborate, share ideas, and help one anot...
