Effective teaching

 Reflection on My Teaching Practicum

During my teaching practicum at BTC JSS, I learned many important lessons about what it means to be an effective teacher. My experience helped me understand that teaching is not only about delivering lessons but also about finding ways to help students enjoy learning and take part in the lesson actively. I realized that effective teaching requires good planning, creativity, and strong classroom management skills.

One of the most valuable things I learned was the importance of using different interactive resources and activities in my lessons. I used games, songs, group discussions, and problem-solving activities to help students understand the topic better. These activities made my classes more enjoyable and allowed students to express their ideas freely. I noticed that when students are involved in fun and interactive tasks, they become more confident and motivated to learn. It also helped me see that every student learns differently, and using various activities gives them all an equal chance to succeed.

Another lesson I learned was about encouraging peer tutoring and cooperative learning. During group work, I saw how students helped each other and learned together. Some students who were shy or slower to understand became more confident when working with their classmates. Peer tutoring helped create a positive and supportive classroom atmosphere where everyone felt included. I learned that my role as a teacher is not just to give instructions but to guide and support students as they learn from one another.

Finally, I learned how important it is to come to class on time and use the entire lesson period effectively. Being punctual and organized helped me gain my students’ respect and made the lessons run smoothly. I used my time wisely by preparing materials in advance and managing classroom activities efficiently.

Overall, my practicum experience was a great opportunity for me to grow as a future teacher. I learned that effective teaching comes from passion, preparation, and patience. These skills will continue to guide me as I work to become a dedicated and effective teacher for my students in Kiribati.
