Ethical Behavior and Personal Values
During my practicum at BTC JSS, I learned the importance of ethical behavior and personal values in teaching. I realized that being honest, fair, and respectful in all interactions with students, colleagues, and the school community is essential for creating a positive learning environment. One important indicator I practiced was diligence, which included completing attendance registers, roster duties, and reports accurately and on time. I made sure my classroom resources were well-organized and safe, which helped me deliver lessons smoothly and allowed students to engage fully in the learning activities. Being diligent also meant taking responsibility for my own teaching and preparing lessons carefully so that every student had the opportunity to succeed.
Another key indicator I focused on was willingness to work out-of-school hours to enhance learning. I stayed after school to help students who needed extra support in understanding English grammar and vocabulary. I also prepared additional worksheets and exercises at home to ensure that all students could achieve the lesson objectives. Through this, I saw how spending extra time with students helped them catch up, improved their understanding, and increased their confidence. It also allowed me to interact more closely with students and build stronger relationships, which made the learning experience more meaningful for them.
Finally, I practiced enthusiasm and excitement in teaching, which helped make lessons interesting and engaging for my students. I used effective teaching resources, interactive activities, and real-life examples to motivate students to participate actively. By showing excitement about the subject and encouraging students’ curiosity, I noticed that they became more eager to learn and were willing to explore new ideas. My enthusiasm also created a positive classroom atmosphere and helped students feel more confident in their learning.
In conclusion, my practicum experience taught me that ethical behavior and personal values are crucial for being an effective teacher. By being diligent, willing to work beyond school hours, and enthusiastic about teaching, I was able to create a supportive and engaging learning environment. These experiences helped me understand how teachers’ personal values and ethics directly impact student growth and success.
